Born on Salt Spring Island and originally raised in the Cambie Street (Douglas Park area), she has an inside edge. Having experienced Canada wide and global travel as well as growing up in the city; Fernley has an in depth understanding of the layers and complexities that different neighbourhoods and cultures exemplify.

She believes in the value of hard work and compassion towards all living things. -This includes taking into consideration climate factors for safety, kindness towards animals and an appreciation of community, diversity and wellness. 

Dedicated to family, her great great uncle is founder of the national cancer centre inc.; funding young cancer researchers working on innovative studies that

seek to cure cancer.

Fernley is also a supporter of non government movements such as World Wide Fund for Nature.
